The Courage to Begin
A Novel
On a live profile these open the author's own purchase pages.
About the book
Nine years after she left Bellwether without saying goodbye, Iris Callahan steps off the evening train into the same rain she once ran from. Her mother's house needs emptying, the railway crossing still hums at midnight, and the man she never explained herself to now runs the hardware store on Kell Street.
The Courage to Begin is a quiet, closely observed novel about the decisions we defer, the people who wait anyway, and how a life can turn on a single honest conversation.
About the author
Elena Brooks writes contemporary fiction set in small Southern towns. She grew up beside a railway line, spent a decade as a county librarian, and now writes full time.
The Courage to Begin is her second novel.
